Roles and permissions explained

1 min read · Updated Jun 2026

A role is a named set of permissions assigned to each member. Flamingo ships built-in roles (Owner, Admin, HR Manager, Finance Manager, Recruiter, and more) that can’t be edited, and you can create your own. Roles are assigned per organization.

Access in Flamingo is controlled by roles. Each role bundles a set of permissions, and every member is assigned a role that decides what they can see and do.

Built-in roles

Flamingo includes ready-made roles such as Owner, Admin, HR Manager, Finance Manager, and Recruiter. These are standard, read-only roles — you can assign them, but you can’t change their permissions. If you need something different, create a custom role — see Create a custom role.

How permissions are organized

Permissions are grouped by area — for example Talents, Jobs, Company, Payments, Approval Policies, and more. Within each area, a permission can grant:

  • View — read/see that area.
  • Edit — make changes in that area.

So a role can, for example, let someone view invoices but not manage payments.

Roles are per organization

A role is assigned to a member within an organization, so the same person can have one role in one organization and a different role in another — see Working with multiple organizations.

Assigning a role

You choose a role when you invite someone, and you can change it later from Settings → User Management by editing the member. See Manage your team (users).

Note: Managing roles needs the Roles Management permission. Built-in roles are read-only — to tailor access, create a custom role.
