Will my invoices be created for me, or do I create them?
It depends on how your client set up your contract. On a recurring (per pay period) contract, invoices are generated for you automatically. On a completion-of-service contract, you create a one-time invoice yourself when the work is done.
Whether your invoices appear on their own or you create them depends on how your client set up your contract. There are two setups.
Recurring (per pay period) — created for you
If your contract is billed per pay period, Flamingo generates your invoices automatically on a set schedule. How the amount is worked out depends on your pay:
- Fixed monthly pay — an invoice for your agreed amount is created each period. You don’t need to do anything.
- Hourly or daily pay — your invoice is built from your approved timesheets. So to get paid correctly, log your time and make sure it’s approved — see Log and submit your timesheets.
For more on this, see Why are some of my invoices generated automatically?.
Completion of service — you create it
If your contract is a one-time, project-based arrangement, there’s no recurring schedule. When the work is done, you create a one-time invoice for the agreed amount (and add any expenses). See Create and submit an invoice.
How to tell which one you’re on
- If invoices show up in your Invoicing list on their own, you’re on a recurring (per pay period) contract — just review and submit when needed.
- If nothing appears until you add one, you’re on a completion-of-service contract and should create the invoice when your work is complete.
Note: Not sure which setup you’re on? Check your Invoicing list — if invoices appear automatically, they’re recurring. If you’re ever unsure what you should be invoicing, ask your client.
Whichever way your invoice is created, it moves through the same stages afterward — see How invoicing works (statuses explained).
