Sign your contract
After your profile is set up, you’ll sign your contract. For a standard agreement you e-sign through a secure signing link; if your client uploaded their own document, you simply review and accept it. Signing is what activates your contract so you can start work and get paid.
Once your client has set up your engagement, you’ll need to put your contract in place before work can begin and you can be paid. How you do that depends on the kind of agreement your client chose.
Two kinds of agreement
- Standard agreement — a contract generated on Flamingo that you e-sign electronically through a secure signing link.
- Uploaded document — your client uploaded their own agreement. There’s nothing to e-sign; you review and accept it instead.
You don’t choose which one you get — it’s set by your client. The steps below cover both.
Signing a standard agreement
- You’ll get an email letting you know your contract is ready, and your contract will show as Pending signature.
- Open your contract and start signing — your client signs first, so you’ll see the company marked as already signed and your signature shown as the final step (“Your signature is the final step”).
- The document opens in a secure e-signature window. Review it carefully, then sign where indicated.
- Once you finish, your signature is recorded automatically and your contract moves forward — no further action is needed from you.
Note: Your signature is the last step — your client signs before you. If you don’t see the option to sign yet, it usually means the contract is still being prepared or countersigned.
Accepting an uploaded document
If your client uploaded their own agreement, you won’t e-sign. Instead:
- Open your contract and review the document your client provided.
- Click Accept Contract to acknowledge and accept the terms.
That’s it — accepting records your agreement the same way signing does for a standard contract.
What happens after you sign or accept
- Your contract status updates, and once it reaches its start date it becomes Active — meaning you’re cleared to work and to be paid.
- You can always come back to read or download your agreement later — see Download your contract and invoices.
Where signing fits in onboarding
Signing is one step in getting set up. For the full path from invitation to your first invoice, see Getting started: your contractor onboarding.
Note: You still need a verified identity and a bank account on file before you can be paid — signing your contract is what lets the work officially begin.
